Movie News: ‘Men in Black’ Spin-off Movie Nabs Release Date

Men in Black II

Men in Black: We’ve been expecting a fourth installment in the Men in Black series that originally starred Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones (above) as agents for a secretive force that defends Earth against alien attacks. We heard that it might be crossed with 21 Jump Street, starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill as the agents. That might still happen, but now comes word that an untitled spin-off movie featuring all-new characters has already been written by Matt Holloway and Art Marcum (Transformers: The Last Knight) and has been scheduled for release on May 17, 2019. Guardians of the Galaxy

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3: In a spoiler-filled response to questions about a certain character in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 returning in a sequel, writer/director James Gunn (above) has ruled out the possibility: “I personally will never bring him back to life in present time because it would nullify his sacrifice.” He also made clear that Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy is not the same character as Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, even though both are voiced by Vin Diesel. Wilmer Valderrama

Patriots From the Barrio: Actor turned producer Wilmer Valderrama (above), probably still known best for lighter fare like his long-running role on TV’s That ’70s Show, has acquired screen rights to Patriots From the Barrio. First published in 2014, Dave Gutierrez’s book tells the story of a segregated Mexican-American combat unit from South Texas during World War II and how they ended up among the first U.S. troops to fight on land in Europe. Tragedy Girls

Tragedy Girls Trailer: Heading for theatrical release on October 20, Tragedy Girls stars Brianna Hildebrand (Deadpool) and Alexandra Shipp (X-Men: Apocalypse) as young, death-obsessed women who host an online show. As a new trailer makes clear, their attempts at increasing their viewership have darkly comic consequences. [Movieclips]
