Mission: Impossible III

Mission: Impossible 6: Michelle Monaghan has confirmed that she will be reprising her role as Julia in Mission: Impossible 6. Director Christopher McQuarrie first shared a photo of her without explanation via social media; the actress then shared the same image and wrote: “Can’t wait to show you guys more of Julia’s story.” The character appeared previously in Mission: Impossible III (above) and again briefly in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. The movie is set to open on July 27, 2018. [Twitter]

Transformers: Age of Extinction

Bumblebee: We heard recently that Hailee Steinfeld was in talks to star in Bumblebee, the first spin-off from the Transformers series. Now come new details about the movie’s approach: “Set in the 1980s, it will feature considerably fewer Transformers, concentrating on the big, yellow star […] and likely pitching a little younger, tonally.” That sounds like a refreshing change from the primary series and also explains why Steinfeld is being touted for the lead. Reginald Hudlin

Shadowman: Reginald Hudlin (above), whose many credits include writing Marvel’s Black Panther comic book series, recently completed helming the biographical drama Marshall, and now he’s attached to direct Shadowman. It’s based on a character in the Valiant comic book universe, a New Orleans musician who gains “otherworldly abilities.” Hudlin will work with Adam Simon (TV’s Salem) on a revised story for the movie, which has been in development for some time. Detroit TV Spot: John Boyega is featured in a new TV spot for Kathryn Bigelow’s Detroit. He portrays a police officer in 1968 who gets caught up in an intense riot that breaks out in the city. Anthony Mackie, Will Poulter and Jack Reynor also star; the movie will open in theaters on August 4. [Movieclips]
