Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

Maleficent 2: Joachim Rønning (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, above) is in talks to direct the sequel to Maleficent. Angelina Jolie will once again star as a woman who displayed a wider range to her character in Maleficent. The sequel is aiming to start production in the first quarter of 2018. The latest Pirates installment earned more than $794 million at the box office worldwide, while Maleficent made $758 million. [Deadline]


Venom: Jenny Slate (Gifted, above) is in negotiations to join the cat of Venom. If things work out, she will portray a scientist. Tom Hardy will star as the titular character; Michelle Williams and Riz Ahmed are already set to appear in the super powered adventure. Ruben Fleischer (Gangster Squad) will direct; the movie is scheduled for release on October 5, 2018. [Variety]

Anna Paquin

The Irishman: Anna Paquin (above) has joined the cast of Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman. Robert De Niro stars as a self-described hit man who claimed inside knowledge about the disappearance of union leader Jimmy Hoffa (Al Pacino) in 1975. Paquin will play his daughter, who becomes increasingly estranged from him over the years. The movie, which also stars Joe Pesci, Harvey Keitel, Bobby Cannavale and Ray Romano, is currently in production. [Deadline]
