News Briefs: Colin Farrell Touted for Disney’s ‘Dumbo’

Saving Mr. Banks

Dumbo: Colin Farrell (Saving Mr. Banks, above) is in negotiations to star in Disney’s new version of Dumbo. Tim Burton will direct; if things work out, Farrell will play a widowed father with two children, joining Eva Green as a trapeze artist and Danny DeVito as the owner of a small circus in the live-action movie. The Night Before

Wingmen: Joseph Gordon-Levitt (The Night Before, above) is in early negotiations to direct a musical comedy. He is already set to star alongside Channing Tatum in the movie, which has been provisionally titled Wingmen and follows two pilots who crash-land in Las Vegas and then sing cover versions of popular songs “with a touch of adult humor.” [Variety]


Archer & Armstrong: Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland, above) will direct a big-screen version of Archer & Armstrong, a comic book series revolving around a disreputable immortal warrior and a teenage prodigy who has been trained to murder him. Terry Rossio (Pirates of the Caribbean) will write the screenplay. [THR]

Queen of the Desert

Queen of the Desert Trailer: Nicole Kidman stars as Gertrude Bell, a writer and explorer for the British Empire in the early years of the 20th century, in Queen of the Desert. A new trailer hints at her many adventures. Werner Herzog directed; the movie will open on April 14. [Movieclips]
