News Briefs: Emily Blunt and John Krasinski Unite for ‘A Quiet Place’; Amy Ryan and Steve Carell Reunite for ‘Beautiful Boy’

A Quiet Place: Married couple Emily Blunt and John Krasinski are finally making a movie together. The two have voiced characters in the same animated features before and both cameoed in The Muppets, but they will be costarring onscreen for the first time in A Quiet Place, a thriller for producer Michael Bay and Platinum Dunes with a plot being kept secret. Krasinski is also rewriting the script and will direct the movie, which begins shooting this fall. [Variety]

Beautiful Boy: Two other cast members of TV’s The Office are reuniting for the Brad Pitt-produced Amazon movie Beautiful Boy. Steve Carell and Amy Ryan, who played a couple on the sitcom, will now play exes in the drama based on David Sheff’s memoir about his son Nic’s meth addiction. Carell had been cast in the Sheff role, and now Ryan is set to play the boy’s mother. Will Poulter may join in the part of Nic. Beautiful Boy was adapted by Luke Davies (Lion) and Felix van Groeningen (The Broken Circle Breakdown), who is also directing. [Deadline]

Dumplin’: The next comedy from director Anne Fletcher (The Proposal, 27 Dresses) will star Jennifer Aniston as a former beauty pageant queen who now runs a regional contest. She also has a plus-sized, Dolly Parton-obsessed teenage daughter nicknamed Dumplin’ who decides to enter the pageant, along with her outcast friends, as an act of protest. Although Aniston is the big name attached, this adaptation of the YA novel of the same name will primarily be a soundtrack-heavy teen movie. [Deadline]

Megan Leavey Trailer: Kate Mara stars in this true story of the titular U.S. Marine corporal, who worked as a K-9 handler in Iraq, and her German shepherd partner, Rex. The biopic is directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite, who made the influential documentary Blackfish, and costars Common, Harry Potter‘s Tom Felton and Edie Falco, as Leavey’s mother.
