News Briefs: Michael Keaton May Be Villain in Disney’s ‘Dumbo’

Dumbo: Michael Keaton (above in The Founder) is in negotiations to join Disney’s new version of Dumbo as a villainous circus owner. If things work out, it would mark a reunion for Keaton with Danny DeVito and director Tim Burton; the trio last teamed on Batman Returns (below). Eva Green and Colin Farrell are also expected to star in the live-action movie. [Variety]

My Favorite Thing Is Monsters: Sam Mendes, who most recently helmed the James Bond adventures SPECTRE and Skyfall (above with Judi Dench), is in early talks to direct My Favorite Thing Is Monsters. It’s based on a graphic novel by Emil Ferris that is set in Chicago during the late 1960s and follows a 10-year-old girl who seeks to solve the murder of her neighbor, a Holocaust survivor. Monsters, real and imagined, are also part of the story. [Deadline]

Revival: Billy Crystal will star in the comedy Revival. He’ll portray a legendary Broadway composer who is reduced to composing jingles to make ends meet after an acrimonious and expensive divorce. When he learns that a local high school plans to mount a production of his most famous musical, he decides to shut it down. Barry Levinson (HBO’s upcoming The Wizard of Lies) is set to direct. Folk Hero & Funny Guy

Folk Hero & Funny Guy Trailer: Alex Karpovsky (TV’s Girls) stars as a struggling stand-up comic in Folk Hero & Funny Guy. As the first trailer reveals, his friend (Wyatt Russell), a rising singer and songwriter, hires him as his opening act and then he finds a possible love connection in the form of the lovely Meredith Hagner.
